Understanding how REPORT OBSOLETE works

edited Jul 4, 2018 5:00AM in Database Backup and Recovery (MOSC) 2 commentsAnswered

Hi all, I need some help to understand how RMAN's REPORT OBSOLETE command works. Generally from what I understand, report obsolete will check the backups and compare it with the retention which was configured in the RMAN parameters, backups which are past the retention are marked OBSOLETE correct?

However when I issue the command on my DB, RMAN is reporting that even my latest backups are obsolete when the retention is 90days. Can someone help me to understand why is RMAN behaving such a way?

RMAN> report obsolete;

RMAN retention policy will be applied to the command

RMAN retention policy is set to recovery window of 90 days

Howdy, Stranger!
