Once the star item is created with its respective BOM, can we reconfigure the BOM again?

We are having a scenario where we have to configure the BOM several days apart. We need the star parts created to generate Demand. Newly created Bom for this star part Item  has only one item, a Phantom item underneath it. We would like to reconfigure the newly created Bom. How can we achieve this? Any inputs on this is highly appreciated.
