What Integration Standards are best to follow?

We have more and more requests for applications outside of EBS to access our data within EBS.  We typically just provide a View.  But I'm interested in knowing how others do this?  Are there Best Practices that you follow?  Standards you use?  Anyone willing to share this type of information?
