Maintenance on DB - how so I stop it restarting/switching

Got two servers running multiple DB instances clustered between two servers.

Looks like we've got multiple resource groups (for each DB?) each containing a few resources.

Whats the correct process/commands if we want to take one of these DBs offline for maintenance? i.e. if we stop the DB is doesn't try to restart or switch etc?
