Media Object Migration

We are upgrading our tools to 9.2.2.5. We are looking at the media object migration to storing in the database. I am hoping for a better explanation for:

1. Can we safely migrate our test environments to the database, do some testing, then migrate production later? We currently store our media object in the same file location for test and prod.

2. I understand you can either store the media object tables in business data or system. Is there an advantage to splitting these our per environment and storing them in business data?
