Steering Pool Question

I am looking for some guidance on steering pools and their configuration. I am currently working on moving from 2 AP 3820's over to 2 AP 3900's. I am looking at our current running config on our current 3820's and see that we have three steering pools configured and assigned to separate realms. I noticed that all three pools are configured with the same range of ports (start and end). It was my understanding that these had to be unique and could not overlap? Any idea why Oracle support (they configured our first set of APs) would have used the
