What is the purpose of Suply Sub inventory in Item Master

Hi,

Would like to understand what is the purpose of supply SI & supply locator in item master & Where is this data used or pulled ?

In our system we have assigned supply SI (eg. X111 & locator LSX111.But realistically when the item is received it goes in warehouse location i.e WHX1 different from supply SI, and stays in ispection status. Once released from inspection it goes to another location in warehouse i.e WHX2 . Then we do a move order transfer based on demand to move the inventory to X111/LSX111 location. Do you think this is the standard process?
