Catching ORM-D before Our 3PL Parners

Good day, Logistics Community!

Can anyone suggest a whitepaper or other resource to help my organization handle detect basic ORM-D risks (e.g., three lithium ion batteries traveling without their equipment) before handing Deliveries off to a 3PL partner? We have a kludgey Alerts-based solution in place, but I feel there must be a better way out there!

Edit: We do have our Inventory Items tagged with UN numbers for use in the current solution.
