Using Secure Erase on Exadata 12.1.2.3.5

The new Secure Erase released with Exadata System Software 12.2.1.1.0 indicates it can be used on Exadata systems V2 and higher:
However, it's not real clear about which Exadata System Software versions it will work on. Or, if the Exadata System Software version even makes a difference.
Before I grab the patch and attempt to use the PXE or External USB options, can someone clarify this works on earlier software versions such as 12.1.2.3.5?
Fyi....we are decommissioning two X2-2's and one X4-2 (all running 12.1.2.3.5).
