Switch over to DR during ODA patching?

Greetings,

One of the complaints I get is the outage request for patching the production ODA (the version is 12.2.1.4; RAC; virtual).  We have another ODA where we're using DataGuard to replicate to.  My question is: has anyone switched over to a DR to patch their production ODA and switched back after patching?
