Set Action Code = Update when a child product is added or deleted or an attribute is modified

I have a scenario where the MOLI action code should be set to Update when a child product is added or deleted or an attribute is modified. However, I saw this support document Doc ID 1439316.1 advising to leave it be. But our OSM guys are expecting the action code to be Update so I want to ask if there is a way to change this econfig engine behavior?
