Cost to Cost Revenue billing extension

We have been using Cost to Cost Revenue billing extension(standard extension) for recognizing the revenue. But business is asking us to modify the std extension underneath formula.

Here are our questions:

1. Can we apply the new custom extension on the existing projects, if so what is the process?

2. If we customize the  extension, what all points needs to be considered?
