Other email address types in Notification Framework?

Has anyone come across a use case where you want to use an address type other than the one marked as preferred when using the Notification Framework in Campus Solutions?

The page below states you can use Custom Logic, however Peoplebooks clearly states that when you use custom logic you are unable to send emails in batch via the Batch Notifications process - rendering it pretty useless for us.  We would like to send these emails to a specific email address type, which may or may not always be the preferred.

Any help appreciated.
