Is HTML formatting possible when adding comments to a record?

Current Version: 17.12.4 b-04112018-08 but this applies to all previous versions as well.

When adding comments, no HTML or any formatting is possible. We often times like to add emails to the comments to create an ongoing record. This is opposed to us attaching every email as it comes in which is time consuming, or waiting until the email thread is complete which does not provide updates as the record is moving through a workflow.

Another alternative may be discussion but that will take time to train and implement while email is the standard method of communication.

Is it possible to configure the comment field to allow for HTML text, or would this be an enhancement?
