Using E1 Pages instead of Navigator

I would like to control the access to reports and applications by publishing E1 Pages to specific Roles and having Navigator unavailable. In the process of exploring making this happen I learned about Simplified Navigation, and about an existing bug request to remove the entire banner including the Navigator icon. If the ability to hide the Navigator icon only would be useful to you also, please consider adding yourself to the bug report created for this.
