Cost adjustment from new project to existing assets capitalized by other projects

Dear All,

We have following requirement. Would appreciate if anyone could answer it.

We have created multiple assets through multiple projects and transferred for fixed assets where depreciation etc has been processing. Now we have another project that would add cost to some of those assets, already created through some other projects.

When we try to create an existing asset in new project, system gives error "Asset Number must be unique within Projects".

Is there any possibility that we could add cost of new projects to already capitalized assets of other projects.
