Check-in simple question

Hi, I have simple question regarding check-in/check-out. When we check-out, we get the object and speficiation from Deployment Server to workstation. After changing the object and specification, we check-in, it write back to Deployment Server.

My question is, will this overwrite the object in the deployment server. For example, I checked-out, changed and checked-in. If I check-out again, will I get the original object from deployment server or the one I had checked-in after changes.
