Can we assign category to item by using API?

Hi,

We have some 3rd party system for items loading.

ITEMS are loaded into EBS through custom API programs without issue

Category sets/code is created by using data loader

I need to assign various category to each item

Is there API available to load category at ITEM level?

Please do share link/information related to that
