What is the F4102.MAKE field used for?

My client is going through a data cleanup activity and have inquired about the F4102.MAKE field which is validated against the H40/MA user defined code table.  It appears this value is only displayed on a form in the P4101Z1 application.  None of their items have a value in the field, but they would like to use it.  There is very little to any documentation on this value other than there being reference that it is used in conjunction with the stocking type.  Since there is no form that allows you to edit the field, I'm not able to determine how
