Inventory Items are created wrongly

Hi SME's,

User has created inventory item wrongly. example: Item is created as "1234" instead of "1234Z" and rest of all parameters are same including account Code combination and Cost amount.  Now sales orders are created against these inventory items. few orders are already shipped and DCOGS & COGS generated. Few are not yet shipped and invoiced.

Please let us know the approach to correct the Item name. If item name is possible to change then what is the impact at COGS and other areas.
