New load coming onto server; use a baseline then AWR?

Hello, the processing load on my Oracle database is about to increase significantly and my job is to watch it and be able to brief management on what I am seeing in the database and also explain to my technical colleagues what I am seeing. 

I'm looking for advise/best practices to achieve this. We are taking hourly snapshots now with a retention period of 30 days.  It seems like taking a baseline snapshot now is step one. Then step two would be comparing that baseline to another set of snapshots via AWR "Run AWR compare periods report" in OEM as the load increases.
