Has anyone successfully had inventory orgs in different business groups charge the same project?

We would like to enable our inventory orgs to trade material, even though the inventory orgs are in different business groups / operating units / ledgers.  This seems like something many companies would want to do, especially multi-nationals who are more likely to have separate business groups.  It can be done between inventory orgs in different operating units within the same business group.  We encountered many errors when testing across business groups, though (see below).  Has anyone successfully done this?  How did you set it up?

Issues:  In our test instance, we enabled two inventory orgs to charge the same project.  They could receive and issue, but only employees in the project's business group could enter labor.  Next, the Cost Collector errored sending the transactions to Projects.  The Inventory intercompany process errored.  We pushed the cost into Projects and tried Projects' intercompany process but that errored as well.  At this point, cost is in two different operating units, but one operating unit gets all the revenue.
