Can we cost collect against a closed period?

Can we cost collect against a closed period? More specifically, six journals (30 rows) was backdated and posted. Cost collection after the period closed. However, when the cost collection process ran, they error out. Thinking must be due to the closed period. The failed job have been deleted so no record of the error message. Can't replicate the issue in a test environment.
