Smart View not allowing logins under Private Connections with Custom Authentication

We are in the process of upgrading to HFM 11.1.2.4, but are having an issue with Smart View and Private Connections.

Our users are set up under Native Directory and we use a Custom Authentication module (CustomAuth.jar) to validate the login information with Okta.  Workspace logins work as expected.  However, if the user is trying to log into HFM via a Private Connection the login fails in 11.1.2.4.  In our current version (11.1.2.1), there is no problem.  We were aware of the issue when we began the process a couple of years ago, but at the time the typical Smart View usage was formulae (hsgetvalue, etc.) so we figured out how to set the connection string to force the Shared Connections
