P4216 Not allowing entry of XDPAK and XDPLT

Steps to reproduce:

1. Set up item under storage/shipping with UPC info.

2. Set up customer with S O P I Pick/Pack config.

3. Transportation turned on for the order, single order consolidation.

4. Enter sales order

5. Within Work With Shipments, select Revisions - Detail - Pack Confirm.  It allows the entry of the SCC number (in the proper format) but it will not allow any entry of PAK or PLT.  It gives error 093B "Invalid character in input string".  The data dictionary refers to these fields as strings so I should be able to enter anything.  I've done this before in previous installations without any issues, but for some reason it's not working in this one. It will accept nothing but blanks in these fields.
