Why do JVM core,javacore and snap files get generated?

HI Everyone,

Few times we have observed core.dmp, javacore and snap files getting generated under $DOMAIN_HOME location. Is this a bad sign? Does this affect performance in someway? Is there anyway to avoid this or is this normal?

We are running weblogic version 10.3.6 on AIX 7.1 x64 power system OS.

Appreciate your help in understanding this.
