Maximum Number of Lines for Procurement Contracts and Purchase Orders? Poor performance experienced

Is there a maximum number of lines recommended for procurement contract and purchase order (PO) transactions?  We have use cases for contracts and POs with hundreds of lines (e.g. bid items for Construction projects), and users experience poor performance on these transactions.  Please see poor transaction navigation times below for some of our POs.  Are others experiencing these performance issues if you have transactions with similar numbers of lines?
