In PIM R12, how to restrict users in updating item description ?

Hi Experts,

Business users are having privileges to update item and 'Edit Item' privilege is assigned for the same

However , the requirement is to restrict the item description to all except few users

If we remove the 'Edit Item' privilege, the users are not able to update any of the other item details

Please advise if there is a workaround
