Reporting period not changed

When our Grants periods were changed to close October and open November, the reporting period was never updated.  It is now the end of December, so we are about to change to January.  What are the ramifications of not changing the reporting period from month to month?  If we update it now to December and jump 2 months, are there any particular things to look our for?
