Rman backups failing to clear the archive logs in Oracle 12.2.0.1 with RMAN-03002: failure of backup

Recently OS on AIX was patched to version 7100-04-06-1806 and we started having issues with RMAN backups fro Oracle 12.2.0.1. Other versions of oracle are just fine (12.1.0.2 and 11.2.0.4). Backups of the datafiles, spfile  and controlfile is fine but failing to backup archvielogs.
