WorkCenter Performance - Hiding vs Deleting My Work Links

Hello,

This question is generally applicable to any WorkCenter, but came up in our case specifically on the Contracts WorkCenter. Is there a difference in overall system performance and response time when you choose to hide a My Work link versus actually removing the link entirely from the WorkCenter setup?

Another way to ask would be, does the system still have to perform background calls and retrievals on My Work links even if we've hidden them in the WorkCenter configuration? I've attached a simple screenshot of what I'm referencing in Configure Pagelets.
