Minimum processes required to run adop on 12.2

Hello,

I searched the documentation but could not find an answer.

On 12.2, adop is neat cause it allows you to apply patches while people are working. 

But my question is, can I stop all my applications processes and run a full patching cycle with adop i.e. run adop with only the db? what will happen on the cutover phase for instance.?

I sometimes have memory problems on my server so I would like to optimize the patching.
