How to scrap a WIP unit without marking complete against job?

I am hopeful there is a workaround or method others are using to address scrap transactions.  Ultimately we have wax molded sub assemblies that we make with approx. a 2 week shelf life and a few hours machine setup time per mold.  As molding (especially wax) is not an exact science we have instances of units falling out and we want to record such scrap transactions to know where and how to improve process and capture cost.  The problem lies in the fact these transactions act as completion steps against total job quantity.  Our planners do not want our 24x7
