Inventory of MRO items

Hi we have implemented the procurement of MRO items.    Now the business would like to keep inventory of MRO items for the purpose to control the items consumption and avoid stock outs.     Is there any way to setup some sort of inventory management for MRO (non Stock Items).

All my search seem lead to a lot of manipulations of accounts to ensure we do not carry inventory in our books.    We just need to manages quantities, received and quantities consumed.
