ORA-00313 when activating standby

After successfully configuring DataGuard for 11gR2 db's with primary db on Windows Server 2012 R2 and standby on Linux 6.9 (Oracle database appliance) wtih Redo Apply verified, I get errors in the alert log when I attempt to fail over to the standby:

SQL> alter database recover managed standby database finish;

Database altered.
