Ability to display either Primary or Preferred name in Campus Directory

We would like the ability to display either the primary or preferred name for an employee on the Campus Directory and the Org Chart View.

We have a number of employees who would prefer their preferred name displayed instead of their primary name.  I'm able to "customize"

a method to display the preferred name if they have one and if they don't have a preferred name then it displays the primary name. I would prefer

not to make any customizations.  The Campus Directory would take a much larger customization that we don't want to make.
