Price Adjustment Superseded

I was wondering if anyone can help me identify what are the specific scenarios trigger a price adjustment's status as superseded. I have tried looking for Oracle documentations that discusses this, but I have found none. I was under the assumption that if I add a price adjustment that have have same details, except the Effectivity Date, it won't supersede the original adjustment.
