P31022-Engineering variance not showing up while attaching Alternate routing

Hi,

       I have a standard costed item that has 'M' BOM and 'M' Routing that is used in cost-rollup. I also have an alternate routing setup in case if the product runs in a different room. So on a work order I have attached  'M' bom and A1 routing. I expected the standard and current cost bucket to show a variance based on the changes in A1 routing on the work order but it is not showing up. Is my understanding wrong? Is there a configuration i need to look at?
