Offline datafile impact
Hi all, does anyone knows what are the impact if datafiles are left offline on the DB?
A colleague of mine made a mistake while adding datafiles to a tablespace of a 24/7 production DB. The datafile is created outside from the intended directory, since we cannot actually move the datafile without stopping the database, he put the datafile to offline to avoid the datafile being used. He then create a new datafile at the correct location.
This happens a few months back & during a routine backup checks he notice RMAN has been reporting some sort of error pointing to the offline datafile however the backup actually completes successfully. He then tried to bring the datafile ONLINE in order to stop the RMAN error but failed because the archives has been deleted as it's past the retention period.
