Migrating 11GR2 from X4 to 12cR2 on X7

Hi

We are planning to migrate our existing databases (11.2.0.4) from our current X4 ODAs to newer ODAs (X7) running 12c R2

We plan to use the Manual Upgrade / RMAN backups methods to accomplish this

Now we have 2 questions

In order for us to migrate the database using RMAN / CLI we need Oracle 12c R2 binaries available on the X7 ODAS

Questions

1. When we created appliance on the X7, it does not create a database home. So, in order for us to do that, we need to first create a database and then drop / delete that database so that we can have a 12cR2 oracle home on the X7 ODA?
