Filters including shared-members causes smartview errors on retrieve

I created a filter using an @idescendants("parentMember",0) region.  The level zero children are shared-members.  In smartview, the level zero members are available in the member selection tool but retrieves fail at that level and smartview shows an error "Cannot perform cube view operation.null"  when zooming to the bottom.

Error appears in aps log:
