UOM Conversion for Metric and Imperial

In P4101 some items are set up with metric measurements KG and LT, for example.  Some items with LB and GA.  Both kinds of items are set up in European and US branches.  Not sure what the rhyme or reason is for the setup.

Just getting into P41002 UOM Conversions.  Trying to work on as minimal as possible Transportation setup.  Company does not normally use many UOM Conversions.

If Branch 1 is in Europe and ordering an item on SO that is set up with imperial measurements in item master, is the conversion between imperial and metric required in UOM Conversion?
