Shift entry on Time and Labor

Just wandering how other companies enter shift for PS Time and Labor.  We don't use the delivered shift on job since our employees work different schedules thru out the same week.  So I have set up a T&L rules to create regular for each Shift hours.  We also than create Shift premium for hours over 8 hours per day.  We would really like to only create the shift premium after they work 40 hours, but since they have different shift I don't know how to determine which premium to pay,  This is why I made a daily rule.  Any suggestions.
