Item Name Update In Inventory

I have a requirement to update the item name. So I have updated the item name using MTL Item Interface.

The item name is updated in Item master and doesn't reflected in Sales Order Table but I can see changed item name in SO line form.

Is this the correct way to update item name and how it is going impact on closed, partially shipped and invoiced transactions or Oracle has provided any standard functionality for updating item name.

Is there is anyway to fulfill this requirement?
