Migration and upgrade

dear all,

we are planning a migration of EBS (from 12.1.2 to 12.2.7) to a new server. The current Operating System is Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.4 and the new server will be installed with Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.

Current database version is 11.1.0.7.

There are so many support documents and paths on EBS upgrade, but I couldn't find one for this scenario, ie migration onto a new server. This must be an easier solution and involving less down time, because we can prepare things easier on the new server.

In fact, can we do this:

install database (software only) 12.1.0.2 and EBS (software only) 12.2.7 on the new server and then use the rapid clone to copy data and configuration over?
