As off Regeneration and As off Generation Difference

Hi,

I want to know the difference between As off Regeneration and As off Generation?
i have read that Regeneration should be run first with data selection not equal to 'S' and "X'  and Generation with not equal to 'S' ,'X' and 'Y' but it about data selection what else is the difference what both does?
