P06042 EE master revisions

We leverage P06042 future data EE master revisions and our number of processed records is quite long per employee.  The business is looking for an explanation as to why we need to retain these records.

Can anyone provide what is the best practice in relation to this data?  Should we retain the past 3 years worth to changes or simply delete after processed.
