HR API to change Employee number

Hi,

I have a question regarding change in employee numbers for existing employes in HR.

Background, our Client uses Oracle EBS shared HRMS just to use iExpense for employees. Currently their employees information maintained in Ceridian and planning to move to Workday. However, all the existing employee info remains the same except new employee number sequence as per Workday integration. Do we have an API to change just employee numbers for already existing employess? I'm trying to use "hr_person_api.update_person", but its failing with This person either does not exist at all or does not exist as of the effective date.
