Ora-12203:TNS:Unable to connect to destination

Hi All:

I installed an Oracle Linux .5.2 guest on an Oracle Virtual Box (6..0) and on it, I installed an Oracle 10.2.0.1.0 database on it and populated the database with the same data as on our production database. I plan to retire our old 10.2.0.1.0 database because of storage problems. I have tested the database and it is quite good. The problem is that our application server cannot connect to it with the above error: ora-12203:tns:unable to connect to destination. I also can connect to a database created on a vmware guest linux os. It is only on the Oracle Virtual
