Preventing Receipts or Picks of items which are getting closer to expiration

Hello Folks,

I have the following request from business:

"What happens if the item is within 3 to 6 months of the expiration date. If I was the customer and I purchased an item or assembly that was only good for 6 months from the time that I received it, I would not be happy. We should have some sort of mechanism that prevents us from using or selling an item when that item nears expiration date."

Therefore, how could I manage to setup the system to prevent receiving or shipping items with a determined shelf life already passed?
